Milestones

  • January 2015 – The Coalition board elects its Emeritus position (approved by its members to move forward on this from the AGM)
  • January 2015 – The Coalition opens its 1 Director/board position
  • January 2015 – The Coalition sends out Office Managers positions and office area surveys to all DEAs (results may be available in April)
  • January 2015 – The Coalition sends its 2nd draft suggested changes to the Nunavut Education Act to its members
  • November 2014 - The Coalition issues 1st of 2nd suggested changes to the Nunavut Education Act –
  • November 2014 – the Coalition staff join the Department of Educations, DEA Training Advisory Group
  • November 2014 – the Coalition attends Nunavut Principals conference
  • October 2014 – The Coalition holds its 6th  Annual General Meeting and hold a workshop on the Education Act Review
  • October 2014 – The Coalition members sign a request to extend the deadline on the Education Act Review
  • October 2014 – The Coalition issues another letter on DEA issues and concerns from the AGM and requests to meet with Department of Education on updating its DEA funding Formula, increase Office Managers position from part time to full time, Social Passing, etc.
  • October 2014 – the Coalition delivers its 3rd module on board governance – School Program Plans
  • October 2014 – The Coalition updates its Bylaws and Objectives of the Society
  • August 2014 – The Coalition staff and members of the board meet with the Special Committee on the process, procedures and time lines on the Education Act Review
  • September 2014 – The Coalition moves its office space and jointly shares a administrative assistant
  • January 1 – October 2014 – Coalition staff travel to:  Arviat, Chesterfield Inlet, Whale Cove, Kugluktuk, Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet, and meet with the community DEA on its work and deliver’s board governance training
  • February 2014 – The Coalition staff and board member meet the new Minister of Education on the Coalitions key issues and priorities and to identify where to work together. 
  • October 2013 – The Coalition deliver’s its 2nd module on board governance, Laws, Policies, and Programs
  • January – October 2013 – The Coalition travels to ___

  • Jan 2008 – The Coalition presents our Comments on Bill 21 to the Standing Committee on Education
  • Feb 2008 – The Coalition hires Full Time Executive Director
  • Jan 2007 – Coalition Executive - 2nd Meeting with Minister of Education
  • Feb 2007 – Coalition Release 2nd Policy Statement on “DEA Roles Under the New Education Act and Language of Instruction”.
  • Feb 2007 – Coalition Raises Concerns About Process for Bilingual Education Strategy
  • May 2007 – Coalition holds Annual General Meeting and elects new members
  • Nov 2007 – The Department of Education releases Bill 21 – The New Education Act
  • Dec 2007 – The Coalition holds a teleconference to discuss the information to go into the paper on our Comments on Bill 21
  • Aug 2006 – Formation of Coalition of Nunavut DEAs
  • Oct 2006 – Coalition Releases First Policy Statement on “Why DEAs Should Run Our Schools”
  • Oct 2006 – Coalition Executive - 1st Meeting with Minister of Education
  • Nov 2006 – Coalition Participates in Education Act Steering Committee
  • Dec 2006 – Coalition Presentation to Department of Education Officials & DEA Steering Committee in Igloolik
